Nagarjuna Nakshatra, Indiranagar
The Nagarjuna Group of restaurants is specialized in Andhra cuisine. There are at presently 5 outlets in Bangalore, located - at Residency Road, Indiranagar, Marathalli, Kormangla and Bannerghatta road. The ''Nakshatra'' segment has been kept to bring forth the Nagarjuna brand to the next level- from traditional to contemporary, evolving from local cuisine to fine dining experience!
I have been invited as a part of food review session at the Nagarjuna Nakshatra, Indiranagar for lunch. Located on the Double road and standing right on the main road, it is easily noticeable. The lack of proper parking makes life difficult for Indiranagar restaurants. But Nagarjuna Nakshatra has got their own parking space which is good. Nakshatra is on the second floor.
As I reached, one of the staff led me to our table. The decor inside was nice, with no specific theme but neat and clean. Lighting was perfect for a fine dining atmosphere.
As I settled, I noticed the logo on the water bottle and on the drinks menu. It was a very thought about and cleverly designed logo.
The welcome drink tasted yummy and presented like a pretty Japanese lady! It was called ''orange blossom''- A mocktail prepared out of orange and peach.
Following were the starters:
- Kandari Makai Moti
- Karara Paneer
- Tandoori Bharwan Khumb
- Malai Salad
- Murg Mirchi Kabab
- Murgh Kalmi Kabab
- Murg Malai Kabab
- Prawn Tawa Pepper
In the veg starters, the Kandari Makai Moti and the Tandoori Bharwan Khumb were the best. The former one is actually crispy masala corn. It was simply superb and tasted the same as that of the crispy corn at Barbeque Nation. Don't be mislead by the weight of the name ''Tandoori Bharwan Khum'', its actually Tandoori mushroom. And it was appreciated by each one of us.
In the non-veg starters, Murg Mirchi kabab and Murg Kalbi Kabab was good. As you might guess, the mirchi kabab was really very hot and spicy. But what is food without spice? Even if a tear might run, your tongue will not stop eating it! The Murg Malai kabab, which is similar to Chicken Reshmi kabab was however a disappointment. I felt that it needed much more marination and should be cooked more. The starters were served with a bowl of papad and Malai Salad- which was similar to pineapple raita. The presentation of the starters were brilliantly done and it needs a special mention:)
In main course we were served:
- Paneer Butter Masala
- Daal Makhni
- Murgh Kalimirch
- Mutton Rogan Josh
- Butter naan/Kulcha
- Jeera Rice
The main course items were not upto the mark and needs a lot of improvement. The local taste empowered the dishes, which should not be the case. I have had previous experience in Nagarjuna for Andhra Thali and it was amazing. So I guess being specialized in Andhra style, it will take a bit of time and effort to master in the Punjaabi/Sindhi dishes.

In the desserts we were served ''Apple Ki Jalebi'' and ''Gajar ka Halwa''. The Apple Jalebi is something new for me and it tasted excellent. It was like a Gujiya with stuffing of apple + dryfruits , soaked in kesar badam milk. Indeed innovative and beautiful creation! Gajar ka halwa is my all time favourite so I could not resist eating it after this hefty meal.
Taking about innovation, now-a days I find a lot of places experimenting on Beetel leaf -Paan. We get to see Pan flavoured ice creams and pan flavoured drinks. Nagarjuna is also not left behind and we got to taste Pan shots!. It was creamy and way too sweet but a treat for Pan lovers.
After the scrumptious meal, I got up to adjust the food inside my stomach, just like you adjust the biscuit jar to make room for more:) And then took a tour of the place. It had a average seating area accommodating around 100 guests approximately. There is a separate bar which is slightly detached from this area. Its actually a good thing to have so that guests who do not drink feel comfortable. I also glanced at the menu card. The design of the menu card for both the food and the drinks is very nice. The items are priced reasonably- not too high and not low.
Overall I had a nice experience dining here. Here goes my rating for each aspect:
Overall verdict: 3.83
