Sleepless Nights

Silent Night, Holy Night
All is calm, All is quiet
Between the peaceful dad, mom and child
Innocent infant so tender and mild
All sleeping in heavenly peace
Each Sleeping in heavenly peace!

Well that is definityly not the story
The fact is even more scary
That the infant does not let us sleep
And most of the night he makes us weep
Tossing and turning in several ways
Hitting us, between the football matches he plays
Miss or goal he definitely draws our attention
By his actions in slumber and illegible conversation

Sometimes he even yells closing his eyes
Just when we thought we could rest for a while
Patting him to pacify
His dad would try to close his eye
And didnt even realise that he has fallen asleep
Alas, as though patting baby all night is his only job
Baby would protest sitting up right with another sob
And this time dad makes no mistake
Takes him in his arms and stay awake
This may go on for an hour
Till dad become sure baby's sleep is now deep
Finally celebrate the momentary happiness as if a war is won
And say each other good night in low tone

Dont know what was that noise again that woke me up
Baby now shouting again and this time no clue why
I tried to comfort him, but in vain
He seems to look at me in pain
Just then a brainstorming of the parameters associated
I could find that the root cause this time is the diaper wetted
Change of one soothed him
And without much efforts he went asleep
And I congratulated myself to master the act
With such improved efficiency and tact
Tried to close my eyes and make a fresh start
To whatever sleep that is left for the night in cart

I had a beautiful dream in between
That I am sleeping whole day is the scene
Just then I get a big blow
On the right eye by a tiny toe
This time baby does it with a clear shout
''I want Milk'' is the statement all about
And dad rush to fetch the hot water flask
I struggle to bring the bottle and the lactose powder
Till the milk is prepared his shrieks are louder
The moment the nipple is in his mouth
Tranquillity dwells yet again in the room
However it has now become dawn
Sunrays peeping beside the curtain
All the more made it certain
That your time is over to lay on bed
And start the new day with a light head

Baby is now sleeping peacefully with a smile
May be its my imagination for a while
That he enjoys giving us sleepless nights
Settling scores of previous life's fights
I just wish now he grows up fast
So that this phase of life for ever does not last
